Dancing monthly on Sunday afternoons, 13:30 to 16:00. Mainly second Sunday of the month: please check in advance. £5 per session.
At the Village Hall, Main Street, Barrington, Ilminster,TA19 0JE.
Over the year we learn English dances from mediaeval to Victorian times, working mainly on one period at a time. For example, January-June 2017, dances of the 18th century, practising for a Georgian Assembly in June. Could be described as Playford with extra steps, plus cotillions and a taste of minuet.
Ever wondered where Playford comes from? We also do country dances Tudor-style plus Italian court dances and the flamboyant coranto. At certain times, usually over the winter, the National Trust allows us to dance in the Tudor Great Hall of Barrington Court at the opposite end of the village. This is a rather dark but wonderfully historic hall -- with a 20th-century sprung dance floor! Worth coming along, even if you don't dance, for a free day out in this splendid 16th- and 17th-century mansion.
We are not a display team but visitors to the property watch us and can join in the simpler dances. Check dates in advance with organiser.
