Hi All,
I am still working through old issues of “English Dance and Song”.
July 1955 has this one:
contrafusion.co.uk/Dances/EFDS5509-PrincessMargaretsVisit.html
Does anyone know this dance? Or are you familiar with the terminology of the period in England?
I would love some guidance on:
Would they have played the reel, “Come Dance and Sing”, as a Reel, a Waltz, a Schottische and a Jig? Or switched to different tunes and back for the chorus?
How would you interpret “Head couples cross”? Would they stay with the man on the right, lady on the left through the next figure and chorus? Or would the couple use some mechanism to switch places as they crossed?
What footwork and holds would you use in A.3? It says:
(Schottische) half way with Strathspey (skating) twice R. twice L. repeated.
Half way home Schottische – Waltz. (hop step)
Thanks.
Happy dancing,
John
